Sita’s Path to Confidence and Learning

Background: Sita, an 11-year-old girl from Birsinghpura village in District Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh was born with bilateral cataracts.  She has one elder sister and one younger brother.

Family Situation: Her father Mukesh is an agricultural daily wage laborer, and her mother is a house wife. Their family income is between Rs. 5,000-6,000 per month.  They were determined to provide the best for their children and were devastated when they learned about Sita’s congenital cataracts.  However, they remained hopeful for a solution.

 

Pre-Surgery Life: Sita’s vision impairment made it difficult for her to participate in school activities. She often felt left out and struggled to keep up with her studies

Post-Surgery Transformation: The surgery has brought a remarkable change in Sita’s life. She can see clearly, recognize colors, and participates actively in school. Her teacher noted, “Sita’s confidence has soared. She is now taking interest in studying and other activities."

Vivek’s Journey to Clarity and Confidence

Background: Vivek a 13-year-old boy from Sonari village in Disrict Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, faced significant challenges due to his congenital cataracts. His father is a labourer, struggled to support the family with a monthly income of INR 6000 approx.

Family Situation: With three siblings and illiterate parents, Vivek’s family faced numerous hardships. His parents were determined to find a solution for Vivek’s vision problems and visited a numerous eye health facility but did not find any solution.

 

Pre-Surgery Life: Vivek’s vision impairment made it difficult for him to participate in school and daily activities. He often felt frustrated and dependent on others. It was heartbreaking to see him so isolated.” Project Prakash organized a paediatric eye screening camp in District Deoria. They approached in camp. Vivek got examined with congenital cataracts and suggested to come at Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital, New Delhi for further treatment.

Post-Surgery Transformation: Before the surgery, Arjun’s life was filled with challenges. He had difficulty recognizing faces, reading books, and even moving around his home. His mother recalls, “Arjun would often bump into things and get frustrated. It was painful to see his struggle.”

Omkar’s Step into a Brighter Tomorrow

Background: Omkar, an 13-year-old boy from Chakara Upadhyay village in Disrict Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, faced significant challenges due to his congenital cataracts. His father is a poor farmer, struggled to support the family with a monthly income of INR 5000 approx.

Family Situation: With two siblings and illiterate parents, Omkar’s family faced numerous hardships. His parents were determined to find a solution for Omkar’s vision problems but due to poor financial situation they cannot able to get it treated. His father also got diagnose with both eyes cataract. But due to financial issue they are  not able to get treated it.

 

Pre-Surgery Life: Omkar’s vision impairment left him frustrated, dependent, and isolated. At a Project Prakash eye screening camp in Deoria, he was diagnosed with congenital cataracts and referred to Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital in New Delhi for treatment.

Post-Surgery Transformation: The surgery brought a significant improvement in Omkar’s vision. He became more independent, confident, and could recognize objects and colours. Post -Surgery when he recognized his father, his father became very emotional. His father requested free cataract surgery of himself also. And got treated. They are now very happy.

Satyam’s Leap into Learning and Life

Background: Satyam, an 10-year-old boy from Vedmanpur village in Sant Ravidas Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, faced significant challenges due to his congenital cataracts. He belongs to a poor family. His father sales peanuts in local train and earns Rs.7000-8000 approx.

Family Situation: Satyam, from a struggling family with illiterate parents and two siblings, suffered from vision problems. Due to financial constraints and lack of access to eye care, his condition remained untreated, leaving him and his family feeling helpless and hopeless.

 

Pre-Surgery Life: Satyam’s vision impairment left him frustrated and isolated, struggling with school and daily tasks. At a Project Prakash eye camp in Bhadohi, his mother brought him for a check-up. He was diagnosed with congenital cataracts and referred to Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital in New Delhi for treatment.

Post-Surgery Transformation: The surgery brought a significant improvement in Satyam’s vision. He became more independent, confident, and could recognize objects and colours. Post -Surgery when he recognized his parents, they became very emotional.

Arti’s Turn Toward a Joyful Childhood

Background: Arti, a bright and curious 9-year-old girl, lives in the small village of Birauri in Hardoi district Despite Aarti having congenital cataract, she always had a keen interest in learning and playing with her friends. Her father Naresh runs a small shop and the family struggles to make ends meet with a monthly income of Rs 3000.

Family Situation: Naresh and his wife, both educated with a B.A. degree, had high hopes for Arti’s future. They were heartbroken to see her struggle with daily activities due to her congenital cataracts. They often spoke about their dreams of seeing Arti excel in school and lead a normal life.

 

Pre-Surgery Life: Before the surgery, Arti’s life was filled with challenges. She had difficulty recognizing faces, reading books, and even moving around her home. Her mother recalls, “Arti would often bump into things and get frustrated. It was painful to see her struggle.”

Post-Surgery Transformation: After the surgery, Arti’s life changed dramatically. She could see clearly, recognize her friends, and even read her favourite storybooks. Her father shared, “The first time Arti recognized me from a distance, I couldn’t hold back my tears. It was a moment of pure joy.”

Chandani’s Climb Toward Her Dream

Background: Chandani, a 9-year-old girl from Pachlana village in Kasgunj, always dreamed of becoming a teacher. Her father, Viresh, a small shopkeeper, worked hard to support his family on a modest income of INR 3000 per month.

Family Situation: Viresh and his wife, both holding B.A. degrees, were determined to provide the best for their children. They were devastated when they learned about Chandani’s congenital cataracts but remained hopeful for a solution.

 

Pre-Surgery Life: Chandani’s vision impairment made it difficult for her to participate in school activities. She often felt left out and struggled to keep up with her studies. Her mother recalls, “Chandani would sit quietly in a corner, unable to join her friends in their games. It broke our hearts.”

Post-Surgery Transformation: The surgery brought a remarkable change in Chandani’s life. She could see clearly, recognize colours, and participate actively in school. Her teacher noted, “Chandani’s confidence has soared. She is now one of the brightest students in her class.”

Tannu’s New Beginning Filled with Joy

Background: Tannu, an 8-year-old girl from Bamhnauwa Alam Shah village in Hardoi, comes from a labourer's family. She had congenital cataract. Despite financial constraints, her parents were determined to give her a better future.

Family Situation: With a monthly income of INR 4000, Tannu’s parents, who are illiterate, faced numerous challenges. They were deeply concerned about Tannu’s vision problems and sought help from Project Prakash Charitable Trust.

 

Pre-Surgery Life: Tannu’s vision impairment affected her ability to play and learn. She often felt isolated and dependent on others for basic tasks. Her father shared, “Tannu would often cry because she couldn’t see what other children could. It was a tough time for us.”

Post-Surgery Transformation: After the surgery, Tannu’s vision improved significantly. She became more confident, independent, and could recognize objects and colors. Her mother said, “Seeing Tannu smile and play with her friends again is a blessing. We are grateful to the trust for giving her a new life.”

Family Situation: With six siblings and illiterate parents, Jatin’s family faced numerous hardships. They were determined to find a solution for Jatin’s vision problems and turned to Project Prakash Charitable Trust for help.

 

Pre-Surgery Life: Jatin’s vision impairment made it difficult for him to participate in school and daily activities. He often felt frustrated and dependent on others. His mother recalls, “Jatin would often sit quietly, unable to join his siblings in their games. It was heartbreaking to see him so isolated.”

Post-Surgery Transformation: The surgery brought a significant improvement in Jatin’s vision. He became more independent, confident, and could recognize objects and colours. His teacher noted, “Jatin’s transformation is incredible. He is now actively participating in class and showing great potential.”
